Insurance through your super
While no one likes thinking about what can go wrong, insurance is a way of making sure we are financially protected from unexpected difficulties that may affect us and our loved ones.
Most of our members have insurance that’s built into their superannuation. This means you’re automatically covered 24 hours a day, seven days a week for death, total and permanent disablement (TPD) and, depending on your division, income protection (also known as total but temporary disablement).
As a Qantas Super member, you may be eligible for:
- Standard Cover or Basic Cover – This is automatically included in your super (if you’re eligible);
- Voluntary Cover – This is extra insurance, and is optional.
Benefits of insurance through super
The benefits of insurance through your super include tax advantages (including for your dependants), automatic cover, and the ability for you to choose who receives your super (which includes your insurance cover) in the event of your death. Read more in our insurance fact sheet.
Nominating a beneficiary
A beneficiary nomination allows you to nominate the person or people you wish to receive your super benefit in the event of your death. Read the Nominating your beneficiaries fact sheet.
How much insurance do I need?
You can call the Qantas Super Helpline and a licensed financial adviser can help you work out if your insurance is adequate. They’ll talk to you about your financial situation, including obligations and commitments to help you work out what to do.
You can also access an online calculator.
