Catch up on our first Annual Member Meeting
We held our very first Annual Member Meeting on Friday 4 December, giving members a chance to hear from our Board and management team.
After 15 years of dedicated service to Qantas Super, 14 of those as Chairman, Anne Ward will be stepping down from the Qantas Super Board at the end of May 2019. Anne has worked tirelessly with the Board and executive office to make improvements to the organisation for the benefit of members. With her extensive experience in the financial services sector and as a professional company director, Anne has guided Qantas Super through market cycles and substantial regulatory change to leave the fund in great shape for the future.
As announced in November 2018, we were saddened by the passing of Paul Costello whose devotion to serving Qantas Super’s members remained strong even in his final weeks.
Since Paul’s passing and Anne’s decision to step down, the Qantas Group and Qantas Super have worked closely to identify individuals with terrific skills and experience to fill these two important positions. We are pleased to announce that John Atkin and Lorraine Berends have accepted offers to join the Board as company-appointed directors designate. The Qantas Super Board consists of five member-elected directors and five company-appointed directors.
Qantas Super’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Clancy said, “On behalf of our members, the Board and the team at Qantas Super, I’d like to thank Anne for her unwavering commitment over the years and extend a warm welcome to our new directors designate. We’re thrilled to have candidates of such high calibre and look forward to John and Lorraine helping our members feel confident in their financial future so they can enjoy retirement.”
The Qantas Super Board is expected to formally approve John’s appointment in March 2019 and Lorraine’s appointment in May 2019.

With Bruce Roberts stepping down from his role as Group B Director at the conclusion of a four-year term, we recently welcomed Klair Safier to the Qantas Super Board.
Qantas Super had the opportunity to welcome a number of new faces this year, with four new additions joining our team on secondment from the wider Qantas Group.
