Qantas Super Explores Merger Options. Learn more.

You may have heard us say that here at Qantas Super, everything we do is by members, for members. This starts with our Board, where our five Member-elected Directors play a particularly important role in ensuring we keep connected to our members.

The newest Member-elected Director to join the Board is Denis Evison, who is representing members in Group C. Members in Group C are classified as being “Aircraft Trade Persons other than provided for in Group D, Store Workers and Food Production Workers”.

Denis joined the Qantas Group in 2009 as an Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics). He is currently a Resource Analytics and Task Performance Planner, conducting analysis within the Brisbane Base Maintenance environment.

He was encouraged to nominate for the position by the outgoing Group C Director, Ryan Greaves, who stepped down after leaving the Qantas Group in October 2022.

“Ryan and I had spoken about the role a fair bit back when he first joined the Board in 2019, so when the call for nominations went out this time around, he remembered that and gave me a call to talk about his experience and suggest that I nominate,” Denis said.

The position seemed like a good opportunity to blend Denis’s experience at Qantas with his interest in finance; he holds a Bachelor of Business and Commerce majoring in Finance and Data Analytics from the University of Southern Queensland. He is currently undertaking a Masters in Data Science at the University of New South Wales.

“I think it will be a good chance to combine the finance and the data science sides, and try to use that knowledge to contribute in a meaningful way for Qantas Super members,” Denis said.

Denis is joining the Board at an interesting time; with the stand down now firmly in the rear view mirror, members’ focus is back on the future and what Qantas Super can do to help them feel confident in their financial future.

“Everyone is thinking about the current economic climate and whether they’ve got enough money for retirement,” Denis said.

Denis is expected to be formally appointed to the Qantas Super Board on 8 December 2022.
