Got a question about your super? Rita’s got the answer!

For Qantas Super’s newest Super Adviser Rita Lamack, the path to becoming a financial adviser began when she had a child and began to think about her super balance, concerned with how low it was.

Despite the fact she had studied an economics degree and was working in mortgage lending at a big bank at the time, Rita said she found it difficult to get the information she needed.

“The fact that I had a financial background and still felt like super was a minefield, that was the trigger to make me realise that people need help in dealing with their super and learning how to grow their super,” Rita said.

At the time, the bank was encouraging staff to study financial planning, so Rita took advantage of the opportunity to become an adviser.

She immediately loved the job, and seeing the impact that a conversation with an adviser could have on someone.

“Helping people with retirement planning, I could see that people came in worried about whether they would ever be able to retire, and they left feeling more confident and with peace of mind,” Rita said. “It’s very fulfilling to be able to help people get to that point.”

Rita joined Qantas Super in August 2023, explaining that she was attracted to the nature of the role and the fact that the Super Advice team travels to bases around the country to meet with members.

“I love the fact that there’s so much engagement, that we get to go out and speak to staff at their workplace or over the phone,” she said.

With that in mind, Rita said she’s excited to meet more members, and wants to encourage more people to book an appointment.

“Talking to an adviser and taking charge now can make a big difference when you hit retirement,” she said. “The team genuinely wants to help.”

You can meet Rita at the Hub at Mascot Campus or check when the team will be visiting your workplace here.
